On Monday, during the big September 11 anniversary football game in New Jersey featuring the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills, something bad happened (go figure): Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon. Normally, I’d read a headline about this kind of thing and swiftly move on with my day, but in this case I was 1) actually watching the game as it happened and 2) briefed enough on the particulars to know it was a big deal. Rodgers, 39, is the Jets’ newly installed, very expensive quarterback and basically the team’s one hope for ever making it to the Super Bowl. And he twisted his little ankle ON THE FIRST DRIVE OF THE SEASON. Now he can’t play at all. The other guys on the team are probably crying so much.
