Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: celebrity couples learn to walk, an actress spends time with a younger pop star, and Cameron Diaz reveals her true feelings for her husband’s twin brother.
It’s now the perfect temperature for celebrities to walk around New York City and get photographed by paparazzi. Not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket, etc. This week, several celebrity couples took advantage of the weather and “stepped out” into very public areas of Manhattan. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez went to literal Madison Square Park:
There was no other reason for them to be there except to get attention, which they did. Like... were they on their way to Eataly? I can’t imagine that was the case. This is Affleck’s most obvious pap stroll since he spent all of last spring walking up and down his neighborhood with Ana de Armas.
According to People, Affleck was filming in Texas last week but flew to the city to see Lopez perform at the Global Citizen concert in Central Park. “Ben wanted to be by her side,” a source told the tabloid. “They are always supportive of each other's careers, and Jennifer was very excited to have Ben in New York City.”
It seems she was.
Also out and about this week were Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. The couple lives upstate and usually only comes to the city when they have something to promote. This week, it was Lively’s new line of nonalcoholic mixers called “Betty Buzz.” As we unfortunately all know, Reynolds is currently the face of Aviation Gin, so the couple’s corporate synergy here couldn’t be better. Let me know if the above photo influences you to spend $29.99 on seltzer made by the star of The Age of Adaline.
And here’s an interesting one: Kim Kardashian and her estranged husband Kanye West were photographed going to dinner at the paparazzi-friendly Nobu Malibu last night. It looks like it was a double date with Kardashian’s longtime publicist and KKW marketing exec Tracy Romulus and her husband Ray Romulus. Kim and Kanye together: What does it mean? Probably that we have not been talking about them enough since Kardashian appeared in a wedding dress at a Donda listening party last month.
One possible couple that has yet to do a pap stroll: Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd. People reports that the pair had yet another dinner together at Giorgio Baldi this week. They arrived separately but left together and drove to The Weeknd’s Bel-Air home. Wow!
If this is in fact a romantic relationship, someone associated with Jolie, 46, or The Weeknd, 31, is slow-rolling the details to Us Weekly. A source told the tabloid after the dinner that “both Angie and Abel are telling people that they are just friends, but those who know them think something romantic is going on.”
Oh yeah? The source also said that the pop star has been pursuing the actress. Jolie is “definitely warming toward Abel,” this insider revealed. “He’s been pouring on the charm and going out of his way to impress her.”
What does that look like, I wonder? So far, all we know for sure is that he took her to the same restaurant twice. I guess that could be charming.
As for how this match was made, E! News claims that “The Weeknd and Angelina met through mutual friends in the film and entertainment industry.” Sounds plausible. I’ll be following this story closely as more details come over the transom.
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: It was Hilary Duff’s birthday on Tuesday! Here’s a video of a live studio audience halfheartedly singing “Happy Birthday” to her at The Rachael Ray Show in 2016.
Finally, I’ll leave you with a perfect People.com headline from this week:
