Bill Hader and Anna Kendrick have been dating for an amount of time that will shock you
It's Gossip Time!
Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: a comedian and an actress have a secret relationship, a pop star and a different actress have a secret baby, and Colin Jost and Pete Davidson buy the Staten Island Ferry.
Please sit down because when I tell you this you’re going to freak out: Bill Hader and Anna Kendrick are dating, and it’s been happening — QUIETLY — FOR OVER A YEAR!! I’m not joking:
Hader, 43, is a former SNL star, and Kendrick, 36, is a scrappy little nobody, and together they starred as siblings in one of the worst Disney offerings I have ever seen in my life in 2019. (It was a Christmas movie called Noelle, in which a girl — Kendrick — tries to become the next Santa.) But we know Hader and Kendrick didn’t start dating when they were working on that terrible film, because as every tabloid has reported in the last 24 hours, they have been dating for over a year, not over three years. That would be really crazy.
Rumors of a Hader-Kendrick romance first surfaced on DeuxMoi last week, and People confirmed the news yesterday with commentary from exclusive, anonymous sources. “Anna has been dating Bill quietly for over a year,” a source told the tabloid. “They met years ago. She's hosted Saturday Night Live and they've done a movie together, but they got together well after the movie.”
I think this source just wanted to remind everyone that Kendrick has hosted SNL before, because she did so in 2014, and Hader left the show in 2013. But whatever. The important thing is that Hader and Kendrick have been dating — SHH, QUIETLY — for over a year. How did they manage that?
“They are both very private people, and with the pandemic it was easy to keep it quiet,” the source added. “They’re both hysterical so they must keep each other laughing all of the time. She’s really, really happy.”
Again, I think this source has an angle (hyping Kendrick as some kind of comedy icon) but I’m happy she’s happy. According to another source who chatted with Us Weekly, Hader and Kendrick are “really into each other and make each other laugh — a lot. They’re keeping their relationship private, but friends close to them know.”
And now we do, too. Before this hilarious couple got together over a year ago, Hader was dating another petite brunette: Rachel Bilson, 40. They attended the Golden Globes together in 2020, but according to People, they broke up that July, after dating for less than a year. Kendrick, meanwhile, was previously in a relationship with a British cinematographer named Ben Richardson, 46.
What are Kendrick and Hader up to right now? Telling each other jokes that they both totally get, per Entertainment Tonight. “They really like each other and share the same sense of humor,” yet another source told the outlet. Ha ha.
Another secret revealed: Nick Jonas, 29, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 39, announced today that they have welcomed a baby via surrogate. They both posted identical Notes-app statements on Instagram that look sort of cheerless, but I’m sure that was not the intended effect:
According to TMZ, the baby is a girl, and she was born last Saturday at a hospital possibly near San Diego. Nick and Priyanka did not tell the public they were expecting, and in fact, they’ve lately been the subject of divorce rumors, based on things that they’ve said about each other. In December, when an Entertainment Tonight reporter asked Priyanka if she had any holiday traditions with her husband, she replied, “I think we're still about building traditions. Our big tradition is trying to spend Christmas together because we're always doing so many things apart.”
She also recently changed her Instagram name from “Priyanka Chopra Jonas” to just “Priyanka,” and asked Vanity Fair to refer to her only by her first name in the magazine’s February cover story. So far, the couple has not announced their baby girl’s name — perhaps she will also get just one.
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: Hilary Duff’s new Hulu show, How I Met Your Father, premiered this week. I haven’t watched it yet, but I’m definitely going to this weekend, I think!
Finally, I’ll leave you with the news that SNL colleagues and Staten Island natives Colin Jost, 39, and Pete Davidson, 28, bought a decommissioned Staten Island ferry at auction this week for $280,000. According to the New York Post, they plan to dock it somewhere and turn it into a comedy club. Our new mayor approves:
I guess it’s kind of fun to imagine Kim Kardashian and Scarlett Johansson having to pretend to be excited about this.
