Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: an actor shows off his girlfriend, a rock star has a baby, and Tobey Maguire gets a manicure.
In case you missed it: J.Lo and Matt Damon held hands last weekend. We talked all about it in a post just for paid subscribers.
Despite the fact that none of his children will speak to him, Brad Pitt remains a movie star. He just premiered his new buddy comedy/thriller Wolfs, co-starring George Clooney, at the Venice Film Festival. Pitt’s ex-wife Angelina Jolie was there, too, premiering her Maria Callas biopic, but the two did not cross paths. Instead, Pitt, 60, brought his 34-ish-year-old girlfriend Ines de Ramon on the red carpet for the first time.
Pitt and de Ramon, who used to be married to the Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley, have been dating for about two years now. Earlier this year, sources close to de Ramon leaked to People that she moved in with Pitt (go girl!), and since then, Pitt has seemed more serious about finally wrapping up his divorce from Jolie. According to tabloid reports, he has given up on winning back any custody of his kids. Now, it’s full speed ahead with de Ramon. Whee!
After making their red carpet debut in Venice, Pitt and de Ramon traveled to New York this week, seemingly to go out to dinner several times in front of the paparazzi. Pitt wore a series of bucket hats, and de Ramon wore two different tiny vest outfits. Pitt also wore diamond jewelry from Anita Ko, the brand where de Ramon works in some capacity. One of the necklaces had an “I” charm, presumably for Ines.
Why the sudden publicity rush? Either something really distasteful about Pitt’s ongoing legal battle with Jolie is about to come out, or Pitt is trying to telegraph to the public that he is ready to be a family man again. (Or both.) A source told InTouch this week that Pitt is modeling his relationship after Clooney’s marriage to Amal Clooney.
“Brad has a good thing going with Ines,” said the source. “He was proud to show her off in Venice. He’s always looked up to George and what he has with Amal, and that’s inspired him in his own decisions regarding his personal life. He appreciates a relationship that’s free of drama.”
I hear you man. Those domestic abuse allegations were such DRAMA.
Lucky for Pitt, de Ramon really does seem like a get-along gal. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a People engagement exclusive before the end of the year.
Speaking of dads, perhaps you heard about Dave Grohl. The 55-year-old Foo Fighters guy announced on Instagram this week that he recently had a baby girl with someone who is not his wife. Whoopsy.
Grohl has been married to Jordyn Blum since 2003, and the couple has three daughters together, aged 18, 15, and 10. Grohl said in his Instagram statement that he is attempting to regain his family’s trust, but that may not work out: He has also hired a divorce attorney, according to People.
Grohl and Blum were last seen publicly together at Wimbledon in July. My guess is Blum found out about the baby sometime after that. And she has since been relying on her friend Kate Hudson for support, per the Daily Mail. Hudson “was surprised and disgusted that at Dave’s age he’s still cheating on not only Jordyn, but their girls too,” a source told the tabloid.
The mother of the child has not come forward, which means she for sure got paid. (Grohl said yesterday that an Instagram post from a woman announcing the birth of one “Roxie Junie Grohl” was fake.)
Swifties say all of this is Grohl’s karma for shading Taylor Swift at one of his concerts this summer. Perhaps. Swift has not commented; she is too busy thinking up new things to wear, such as this Dior outfit she chose for the MTV VMAs on Wednesday:
At least she endorsed Kamala Harris.
Uh oh: Swift’s BFF Blake Lively is threatening to come out of hiding. The 37-year-old actress, who faced intense backlash last month over the fun, flirty way she promoted the domestic-violence drama It Ends With Us, sent a trial balloon via People this week. An exclusive source told the tabloid that Lively was “pretty surprised at the backlash and drama” surrounding the film’s release (which also involved her apparent feud with her director and co-star Justin Baldoni).
“She initially felt very vulnerable and upset,” the source continued. “During the promotion of the movie, not one day went by when she was not in the news in an unfavorable light. She’s just not used to this kind of drama.”
Omg how sad. This is the first we’ve heard from (sources connected to) Lively since everything blew up a month ago. My guess is that she’s hoping she can get back to promoting her haircare line — Blake Brown Beauty started posting on Instagram again the same day the People story came out.
Lively also celebrated her 12-year (plantation) wedding anniversary with Ryan Reynolds this week. Of that milestone, a source told People, “Blake and Ryan are a great team when it comes to both their family and work. They’re super supportive of each other. He’s very proud of her. They have a great marriage and love to celebrate everything they created together.”
Oh, and People bestowed Lively’s Blackcurrant Vanille Glam Mousse the “Best Mousse” award as part of its 2024 Beauty Awards this week. “Best Mousse” was not even a category in last year’s awards. Thank you People!!!
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: Ever since she gave birth to her fourth child, Townes Meadow, in May, Hilary Duff has been more or less absent from the Daily Mail, probably because she has been at home caring for a newborn. But this week she made her triumphant return in a series of photos of her grocery shopping with her family. Cute!
Finally, I must leave you with a new paparazzi photo of Tobey Maguire getting a manicure at a Soho nail salon advertising a discount for NYU students:
This must be where he meets all his 20-year-old friends who are girls.
