Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: a 40-year-old actor is ready to settle down, a 32-year-old actress is possibly single again, and Hilary Duff is sleepy.
What’s a good age for a male celebrity to get married? I guess it depends on whom you ask. George Clooney married his wife Amal Clooney when he was 53. Brad Pitt married Jennifer Aniston when he was 35, and then he married Angelina Jolie when he was 50. Leo DiCaprio is currently 46 and still saying “not yet.” Jake Gyllenhaal, meanwhile, is 40, and he told Howard Stern this week that he is finally ready to settle down.
“That's all I want is to be a good husband and a father,” he said. “That really is what I want. And now that I have fulfilled a lot of things in my career that I feel comfortable with, I can safely say that. I don't know if I could have said that before.”
Alas, it’s too late to award this man a Nobel Prize for such brave and gorgeous sentiments. Onto the important question: Is there another person involved in Gyllenhaal’s plan to be a perfect husband and father?
According to Gyllenhaal: Yeah man. She is, of course, a 25-year-old French model named Jeanne Cadieu. “I love her so much,” Gyllenhaal told Stern. “She's such a good person.”
Gyllenhaal and Cadieu have reportedly been dating since late 2018. Just last week, Gyllenhaal acknowledged his gal in public for the first time by standing next to her on the red carpet at his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal’s NYFF premiere.
I’m happy if Jake’s happy. However, I would like to request that he and Cadieu find something interesting to do for paparazzi photos. In past relationships, Gyllenhaal has delivered hit after hit after hit — can this future #1 Dad bring some of that energy to his current pursuits? Thanks.
In other happy relationship news, Olivia Wilde is still dating Harry Styles, and her parents approve of it. Us Weekly reports that Wilde couldn’t make Styles’s concert at MSG this week, so she sent her 70-something parents, Andrew and Leslie Cockburn, in her stead. “They seem to be big fans of his just like Olivia,” a source told the tabloid. “It’s very obvious they’re supportive and adore him.”
Do you think Dakota Johnson has ever sent Melanie Griffith or Don Johnson as her emissaries to a Coldplay concert? I can’t find any record of that occurring, but Page Six reported in 2018 that Don was in attendance at a Hamptons benefit during which Chris Martin gave a surprise performance. So there’s that.
I bring this up because Dakota celebrated her 32nd birthday this week in L.A., and her boyfriend was conspicuously absent. Instead, Johnson went out to dinner with her mom and her friends. Are Johnson and Martin — oh no — broken up?
The couple has had a pretty low-drama relationship since they started dating four years ago (except for a hiccup when Martin may or may not have made out with Dua Lipa at Glastonbury in 2019). They reportedly bought a $12 million house together in Malibu earlier this year. Considering that investment, I hope they are still together. But based on Johnson’s interview with Drew Barrymore this week, it doesn’t sound like Johnson is living with Martin in Malibu right now.
During a “Drew’s News” segment on the always-somewhat-insane Drew Barrymore Show, Johnson made a little dig at her “next-door neighbors” Jimmy Kimmel and Molly McNearney, claiming that they have a lot of parties to which she is not invited. Kimmel and McNearney live in a $6 million property on Marmont Ave in the Hollywood Hills, which means Johnson must still be living in her AD-approved midcentury home on the same block.
Just stating the facts.
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: Hilary Duff went to an Alanis Morissette concert this week, even though she was tired.
Finally, I’ll leave you with these photos of Rihanna and John Mayer leaving a dinner date in L.A. on Tuesday:
The two have reportedly been friends since Mayer started dating Katy Perry in 2012. Perry, of course, is now with Orlando Bloom, and Rihanna is dating ASAP Rocky. Who is Mayer dating? Unclear. Now that I think of it, Dakota Johnson wouldn’t be a bad match…
Thanks so much for opening this email. If you have a friend who likes celebrity gossip, why not forward it to them? And if you’d like to sign up for a paid subscription, you can do that here. As always, feel free to share your thoughts and theories in the comments or by replying directly.
Lolololol Jakey's Nobel! Do we think Rihanna and Katy are still pals? I always liked them together. They seem so much more fun than the (defunct?) T Swift galpals.
