Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: an actor gets dumped, another actor crushes a marketing opportunity, and Hilary Duff celebrates sweatshirt season.
On Monday, the actress Jodie Turner-Smith filed for divorce from her husband of four years, Joshua Jackson. Old Pacey was reportedly “blindsided” by the filing, to which Turner-Smith has responded, via sources in People, that he knows what he did.
“She decided that she is done,” a source told the tabloid. “They are on very different paths in life…it turned into an unhealthy marriage that made her unhappy.”
Damn! Turner-Smith, 37, and Jackson, 45, got together in 2018 after meeting at Usher’s 40th birthday party (fun). They also got serious quickly: They legally married in August 2019 and had a baby daughter, Juno Rose Diana Jackson, nine months later. Turner-Smith requested joint custody in her divorce filing.
She also listed the couple’s date of separation as September 13, which happens to be just a few days after her birthday. The couple celebrated at a Fashion Week party for an electric car company:
(What is up with the birthday breakups lately? You’ll recall Sophie Turner listed her estranged husband Joe Jonas’s birthday as the date of a “sudden argument” that set them on the path to divorce in her recent court filing.)
So far, neither side is saying exactly what happened, but sources connected to Jackson are claiming he didn’t expect Turner-Smith to file. “Joshua was clearly caught off guard by Jodie’s decision to divorce,” a source told Us Weekly. “They had their issues, as many couples do — especially two busy actors who are also juggling a child. Joshua obviously didn’t realize it was this bad, that Jodie was this unhappy.”
Perhaps this kind of commitment was just not meant to be for Jackson: He famously dated Diane Kruger for 10 years without marrying her, and she ultimately dumped him to have a baby with Norman Reedus. Shortly after that breakup in 2016, Jackson was photographed having an eight-hour wino dinner with his Affair co-star Ruth Wilson at Gemma in New York, producing some of the best paparazzi photos of all time:
Unfortunately, all Jackson has offered us this time is some sad photos of himself grocery shopping without his wedding ring.
I think we will get more detail about all of this in due time.
Ryan Reynolds is making the most of his close personal friend Taylor Swift’s new relationship with Travis Kelce. After Swift’s appearance at the Kansas City Chiefs game two weeks ago made headlines, Reynolds and his “cool” marketing company, Maximum Effort, sprang into action. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds devised a plan to use the excitement surrounding Swift and Kelce’s debut to promote State Farm insurance. Rock on.
The plan hinged on the participation of Donna Kelce, mother of Travis and Jason Kelce, who plays for the Eagles. After Donna was spotted hanging with Swift in the VIP box at the Chiefs-Bears game, Reynolds convinced her it would be fun to chat with “Jake from State Farm” at the next Eagles game. Per THR, Reynolds pitched the idea to State Farm, backchanneled with the Kelces via his other close personal friend and Eagles fan Rob McElhenney, and got Swift’s express permission to run the stunt himself.
And so while Reynolds was enjoying the Chiefs-Jets game in the VIP box this Sunday with Swift, 900 of Swift’s friends including Sophie Turner and Antoni Porowski, and the recently separated Hugh Jackman, poor Donna was at the Eagles game with Jake from State Farm. This created many “social media impressions,” per THR, and everyone considered it a “win.”
Donna, for her part, seems to be over all this nonsense. In an interview with my favorite gals Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb on the Today show this morning, she had this to say about her experience hanging with Swift: "It's just one of those things where you know, obviously everybody saw me. I was in the boxes with her and it's just another thing that's amped up my life. It was okay, yeah.”
My best to Reynolds as he noodles on more sick new marketing integrations for the rest of the NFL season.
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: It’s sweatshirt season!
Finally, I will leave you with this perfect clip of David Beckham making fun of his wife Victoria Beckham in his new Netflix documentary:
They seem to be really in love, which is nice.

i really hope we find out what these sudden arguments are that caused jodie & joe jonas to file for immediate divorce in their respective marriages. i mean was it just the straw that broke the camels back? or could each have been that catastrophic?
I had been reading the Jackson had been cheating for a while; unsure with whom. Also...I'm choosing to believe that Victoria is holding back a huge burst of laughter at the end of that clip.
