Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. Today, we’re diving into something no one else seems to be discussing: Justin Baldoni’s interesting backstory. This post is just for paid subscribers; if you’d like to sign up, you can do so in the box below.
Since It Ends With Us premiered in August, and especially since Justin Baldoni filed his $400 million countersuit against Blake Lively earlier this month, everyone has been talking about Lively’s often vexatious public persona. She is rude to interviewers during press junkets; she is overly confident in her sense of style; she borrows jokes from her husband Ryan Reynolds and then makes them incomprehensible; she married Reynolds on a plantation and has yet to apologize for it. As the Baldoni-Lively legal battle wages on — a federal judge just set a trial date in March 2026, God help us — TikTok commentators continue to find new and inventive ways to call Lively annoying.
What is interesting to me is that Baldoni also has a history of being really annoying, and no one is talking about that. The 41-year-old actor-director seems to be benefiting from A) misogyny and B) the fact that most people don’t really know who he is. He was on Jane the Virgin? Maybe your older sister watched that in 2015?
Despite his comparative lack of notoriety, Baldoni has been trying to be famous for a long time. He started acting on soap operas in the mid-aughts and had a few bit roles here and there before going viral on YouTube in 2013, when he uploaded a 27-minute video of his proposal to his now-wife, Emily Baldoni (née Foxler).
