Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: a Kardashian boyfriend makes a public display of affection, an Oscar winner gets embarrassed by high school, and Salma Hayek drinks wine with her owl.
Before we get started, I want to say THANK YOU to all of you who have signed up for this weekly email. I’ve had so much fun gossiping with you these last six months, and I want to keep it up, which is why I’m launching a paid subscription option today. The good news: My Friday posts will remain free to all. The great news: I’m going to start publishing some extra spicy and exclusive posts a couple times a month, just for paying subscribers. I’m talking interviews with gossip experts, deep dives on celebrity mysteries, my unfiltered thoughts on certain “lifestyle” influencers, etc. You will also get access to private discussion threads, where you can chat other Gossip Time readers and me.
My first exclusive post will go live next week — it’s a really special interview with a gossip legend. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it! Or just stick with the free stuff, that’s probably what I would do. Either way, I really appreciate your interest. O.K., back to our regularly scheduled programming.
What is the best way to tell a Kardashian you love them? You could hire a private orchestra to play songs from Frozen, as Kanye West did for Kim Kardashian in 2016. You could buy the largest pear-shaped diamond I have ever seen, like Tristan Thompson apparently did for Khloe Kardashian recently. But what about this?
Yes, that is footage of Travis Barker declaring his love for one Kourtney Kardashian by — hm, how else to say this, no way around it — putting her fingers in his mouth. In the middle of a pandemic!
The Blink-182 drummer and eldest Kardashian sister were on a date at a UFC fight night in Las Vegas when this surprising incident occurred. (In the middle of a pandemic!) A man who calls himself Gucci Shane took the video, but he told Page Six he wasn’t exactly sure what he captured on his iPhone. “I don’t think they were sucking each other’s fingers,” he said. “I think they were just holding hands close to their face, but I’m not positive.”
Huh. Maybe Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly can tell us what happened — they were sitting next to Barker and Kardashian at the fight. The tabloids are calling the outing a “double date,” but it’s not clear to me that the couples actually talked to each other during the event. Either way, it looks like Barker and Kardashian are getting serious: In addition to their unique PDA, Barker recently gave himself a tattoo of a comment that Kardashian left on one of his Instagram posts. (“You’re so cool!”)
Meanwhile, Keeping Up With the Kardashians is trying to convince us that Kardashian plans to get back together with Scott Disick, who is currently dating the “mature” 19-year-old model Amelia Hamlin. Oh well, I’m still watching.
Also in love: Salma Hayek and her owl. The 54-year-old actress appeared in People’s “Beautiful” issue this week alongside her pet, whom she named Kering, after her billionaire husband’s luxury fashion conglomerate. I know, it’s a lot to take in, but look:
It’s not clear to me why Hayek decided to sit for this photoshoot and interview, but I’m so glad she did. Here’s what she had to say about her southern white-faced owl, whom she adopted two years ago: “When my husband is not in town, she sleeps in the room with me. We have certain routines before we go to sleep. I watch TV with my iPad, and she likes to stand on the iPad.”
Also: “Sometimes, when she is really close to me, I can feel her rubbing against me, which is really nice. And I feel so blessed."
And one more thing: "Even though owls don't drink liquids because they take everything from their prey, she likes good wine, this one.”
Well. I have immediately abandoned all of my career and personal goals to focus on one day drinking wine with Salma Hayek and her owl.
Can you identify the famous actors in this photo?
They are Rachel Bilson, 39, and Rami Malek, 39, both alumni of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, CA. This is a high school that has produced more than one celebrity: Kirsten Dunst went there, too, as did Michelle Trachtenberg and Ed Begley, Jr. But for today, we’re going to focus on Bilson and Malek, who were apparently friends in their formative years but have since drifted apart.
On an episode of Dax Shepard’s podcast this week, Bilson revealed that she posted the above photo on Instagram in 2019 to celebrate Malek’s Oscar nomination for Bohemian Rhapsody. And then: He asked her to delete it!
'“I don't usually check my DM's on my Instagram,” she told Shepard. “Maybe a week goes by and I actually look and I have a message from Rami. But it wasn't like, ‘Hey! How are you?!’ It was straight to: ‘I would really appreciate if you take that down. I'm a really private person.’”
Bilson said she complied and told her old friend to “go get that Oscar!” But he didn’t respond. “I'm friends with his stylist and she was like, 'Well it's not a great picture of him,’” Bilson continued. “I was like, I guess I should've found something more flattering.”
Unfortunately for Malek, the tabloids have been reposting this photo all week in response to Bilson’s interview, and now I’m doing it, too. Idk, I think it’s a cute pic! If you went to high school with a famous person and have photos to prove it, please send them my way.
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: Hilary Duff gave birth to her third child, Mae James Bair, on March 24. But she announced the birth on March 26, which is the date I guessed she’d go into labor. So I’m going to say I was half right. Thank you.
Finally, I’ll leave you with this photo of Russell Crowe, 56, playing tennis:
According to the Daily Mail, he was playing doubles with his 30-year-old girlfriend, Brittany Theriot, in Sydney. Looks fun.
Thanks so much for opening this email, and thank you also for considering a paid subscription. As always, please send me all your thoughts and theories; I love hearing from you!
Subscribed! No hesitation. Fingers crossed for an interview with Janet Charlton one day...
Cynically, I feel like going to Sherman Oaks high school goes against Rami's image and that's part of what he was objecting to...
