Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: two attractive co-stars spark affair rumors, a pop star can’t stop talking, and Rihanna hangs out with Martin Scorsese.
Did rising stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell fall in love on the set of their new rom-com, start a torrid affair, and subsequently end their relationships with their respective partners just in time to promote the movie at CinemaCon? That seems to be the question this week. Let’s start from the beginning.
You know Sweeney, 25, from Euphoria and The White Lotus. She is trying to become a movie star. You might know Powell, 34, from Top Gun: Maverick. He is also trying to become a movie star. When these two attractive blonde people descended on Sydney, Australia at the end of last year to film Anyone But You, they were both in serious relationships: Powell was dating Gigi Paris, a model with 434,000 Instagram followers, and Sweeney was reportedly engaged to Jonathan Davino, a restaurateur from Chicago who is 14 years her senior. (According to the timeline I’ve been able to piece together, they started dating when she was a fledgling 19-year-old actress and he was 33 — ew.)
There was no real gossip coming from the set, but then Sweeney and Powell showed up to CinemaCon this week in Las Vegas to promote the movie, and they displayed what has been missing from so many recent onscreen couples: chemistry.
Reporters started to talk, and Powell’s girlfriend Paris made a point of unfollowing Sweeney on Instagram. Then People reported that Powell and Paris had broken up, and the Daily Mail got photos of Davino leaving the L.A. home he shares with Sweeney with some luggage and their dog. Well!
Whether there is actually anything going on between Sweeney and Powell is up for debate. This morning, the Daily Mail published old photos of them reading their scripts together at the beach, which aren’t exactly incriminating. The tabloid also talked to an anonymous worker on the film who said Sweeney and Powell spent a lot of time together in their off hours, and “to be honest, we thought they were already a couple.”
Let’s also be honest: It is in both Sweeney and Powell’s best interest to go along with these rumors (or propagate them themselves). I had barely heard of this movie before this week, and now it’s the biggest headline coming out of CinemaCon. Personally, I hope that whatever happened did end Sweeney’s relationship with Davino, because I think she can do better. If that ends up being Powell, that’s great for both of them.
In the wake of her breakup with that guy, Taylor Swift is squad-ing again. Last week, she was photographed stomping around New York with Blake Lively, Gigi Hadid, and all three Haim sisters. The last time Swift made a point of having such a visible girls night was in the mid 2010s, when she had all those famous and marginally famous women in her “Bad Blood” video.
Sadly, it seems like many of those women have fallen by the wayside: Karlie Kloss is obviously out, and Swift hasn’t been spotted with Serayah or Zendaya or Martha Hunt or really any of the other Victoria’s Secret models in years. Now, it seems like the core group is made up of Haim, Lively, Hadid, Emma Stone (sure), Lena Dunham (Swift was a bridesmaid in her 2021 wedding), and Selena Gomez. All of these people are in their 30s.
I am loathe to report that Meghan Trainor is suffering from going on too many podcasts:
I hope she gets well soon.

Finally, I’ll leave you with this photo of Martin Scorsese and Rihanna hanging out at CinemaCon yesterday:
Have a great weekend.

ok but Glen Powell has managed to have great chemistry with other costars, too. Zoey Deutch, obviously, but also frankly Miles Teller in that planes thing
You know what, Hilary is right. Those gummies are good.
