Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. This week: celebrities are getting married, engaged, and fully committed to their aspirational consumables businesses.
It’s officially summer now, and celebrity wedding season is in full swing. Demi Lovato and her beloved “Jutes” got married at the Bellosguardo Estate in Santa Barbara (covered by Vogue), Hailee Steinfeld and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got married at the ever-popular San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara (covered by her email newsletter Beau Society), and Aaron Rodgers got secretly married to a blonde woman named Brittani (not covered by anyone, but it probably happened in Santa Barbara).
But the most expensive (and potentially destructive) event of the season is yet to come: Jeff Bezos, 61, and Lauren Sanchez, 55, will marry somewhere around San Giorgio Maggiore Island in Venice, possibly on Bezos’s $500 million superyacht, next weekend.
The couple has reportedly booked out several luxury hotels in Venice, including The Gritti Palace and the Hotel Cipriani, for their celebrity guests. Anna Wintour is rumored to be advising Sanchez on her attire, and the wedding will definitely be covered by Vogue in some capacity (remember that 2023 photoshoot?).
The tabloids seem confident that Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and the Kushners and their wives Ivanka Trump and Karlie Kloss will be in attendance. Eva Longoria, recent winner of Bezos’s $50 million “Courage and Civility” award, was at Sanchez’s Parisian bachelorette party, so she’ll be at the wedding. I thought Katy Perry was a lock, too, but TMZ reports that she has conflicting tour dates in Australia. (I wish she could pull a J.Lo and just cancel the whole thing; it seems to be draining her.) Her estranged fiancé Orlando Bloom is going in her stead.
It’s possible, however, that Bezos and Sanchez won’t be able to concentrate as much star power at their nuptials as Huma Abedin and Alex Soros did this past weekend. The wedding had a much smaller carbon footprint — Abedin, the 48-year-old former aide to Hillary Clinton, and Soros, the 39-year-old heir to his family’s fortune, simply hosted their guests at Soros’s home in Water Mill — but every other person there was famous. The Clintons, as well as Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff, Jennifer Lawrence, Jimmy Fallon, Adrien Brody and Georgina Chapman, Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller, Mariska Hargitay, Sienna Miller, Tony Goldwyn, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, and Wintour were all there. (Nicky reportedly introduced the couple at her party in 2023.) Boyz II Men performed at the reception.
Bradley Cooper, who allegedly dated Abedin for a few weeks in the summer of 2022, was not in attendance. (I wonder if J-Law knows what happened there.)
There are still plenty of engaged celebs who may get married later this summer — Tom Holland and Zendaya, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White — but I’m already looking forward to next season, thanks to one special engagement that happened this week.
Jason Segel proposed to his girlfriend of two years, professional dancer Kayla Radomski, at the Huntington Library garden in Pasadena on Monday. He’s 45, she’s 36. Sure sure sure. Do you think they met at the library?
Personally, I just like her name. Jason Segel is going to marry Kayla Random. Yes, that sounds right.
STUFF BY HILARY DUFF: I missed this last month, but Hilary Duff did an ad for Lancome’s recently relaunched Juicy Tubes featuring a grown-up Lizzie McGuire cartoon:
Okay fine.
Finally, did you see that Meghan Markle Sussex restocked her As Ever products this morning?
I managed to get her one new offering, the apricot spread, before it sold out. As of this writing, her famous flower sprinkles, crepe mix, and shortbread cookie mix are still available. Let me know if you order!
Thanks so much for opening this email. And thank you especially to paid subscribers! Your contributions keep this operation running, and I love you.
Bradley Cooper catching strays. Love to see it.
Let us know your review on the apricot spread! I make my own jams and am not a Markle fan so I’ll rely on your feedback
