Is this a safe space to say that based on these reports Taylor Swift seems like a bad friend in all of this?

I think (our current iteration of what it means to be a) celebrity makes it really challenging for women to be good friends to each other. I hope Blake has some non-celeb real friends that we don’t know anything about who are being uber-supportive.

Ya like I remember all the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants ladies immediately put out a statement supporting Blake Lively but Taylor, who is the godmother to Blake’s kids(!), hasn’t said anything, which has allowed a narrative to form and added fuel to the Blake hate. I can understand not wanting to be brought into drama, especially legal drama, but the drama would def be reduced if Taylor squashed the rumours and supported her friend

I thought this too! But then I was like, do all celebrities wonder if their friends are going to/be forced to release their texts should said friend ever be involved in a lawsuit? So how close can you be, really? It sounds hard.

Yeah my thought was that Blake sucks to have threatened this in order to drag her friend into supporting her legally. What kind of messed up person does this? I would never expect my friends to put out a statement or be subpoenaed for any legal trouble I BROUGHT ON MYSELF

I agree, I guess the 10 years of text thing is fake but the idea she could have tried blackmailing her sucks

How do you know it’s fake? I think Blake Legitimately threatened that and when T Swifts attorney called their bluff, she backed down. There’s a reason Swift is distancing herself and I believe it’s bc she doesn’t believe Lively’s version of what happened OR she simply doesn’t want to be associated with this case.

I can't understand why Lively would do this to her friend??? So I was wondering if it was a fake idea planted by the Baldini team... But your version could be plausible too

Anything is possible but given how Taylor seems to have the girl squad going on with Blake as a close part of it for a long time, I just think there’s a reason that she’s not speaking about it or taking a side.

I’m no swiftie but I do think Taylor isn’t stupid and probably has Great legal advice so there’s something behind her keeping it all to herself

I feel like Taylor is not coming off well in this. If one of my best friends was suing someone for sexual harassment I would not be reacting by distancing myself from her "drama." Can you imagine 😅

unless she was played too and didn’t know was being used as a pawn in BL’s narrative. that doesn’t sound like a good friend to me either

If she was used then distancing herself is justified, obviously. If she wasn't though and has just backed off for pr purposes, that's harsh

Y'know, I think this is a really underrated comment.

To answer you bluntly: because her money is being fucked with.

A longer form answer is harder. I'm actually trying to gather my thoughts on this legal case as I think it's actually indicative of a bigger economic and...organisational problem within the 'Hollywood' studio system of the 2010s. I see the 2020s as the tail-end of a major economic downturn; the Hollywood celebrity machine needs to change if it's going to survive, but I'm getting ahead of myself...I'm a little crazy when it comes to pop culture so take this 'longer form answer' with huge grains of salt:

It seems to me that Blake isn't concerned with extortion, or even a legal case against Baldoni...

My theory, a very tentative one, is that the Reynolds-Lively camp want to get 'comfortable' when it comes to their influence in the industry.

To do that you need to start a real multi-media production company. Can't emphasize this enough because I literally don't know how to bold and underline in this comment section! Imagine a smiley emote here because I'm kinda laughing.

Look at what Reese Witherspoon has done outside of film, or the small tidbits of Hilary Duff's product placement life that Allie gives in her posts. Selling product is entry-level stuff; owning the film and television production as their own 'brand' is really where these celebrities get their money now, not doing movie and television shoots directly.

Anyway, their need to get a production company going is what I theorise (emphasis on 'theorise') drove--and drives--a lot of their career trajectory well-before this movie was ever greenlit or Baldoni / Blake ever met.

I don't think celebrities put a lot of intentionality or agency into what they do or say; a lot of their lives are controlled PR stunts combined with latching on to cultural trends.

I'll leave it there, this is quite long.

This was an interesting read! Thanks for taking the time to post. I do agree that becoming/creating a "brand" or executive producing seems much more lucrative these days. Look at Rihanna with Fenty and Savage x Fenty, Selena Gomez with Rare Beauty, etc.
